Joseph Carlson is a homegrown VA actor with a BFA, and MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University where he trained in performance, and acting directing pedagogy specializing in the application of Ritual Poetic Drama within the African Continuum. He is an actor, educator, director, and citizen artist. Joe is a second year company member and resident teaching artist with Synetic Theater, America's premiere physical theater company, and works across, VA, DC, and MD teaching workshops and residencies in physical theatre, theatre creation, designed to inspire confidence and awaken the individual's awareness of their own intuitive genius through mime, clown, dance, acrobatics, and traditional acting methods. He continues to pursue a career as a freelance actor who has worked as principal talent on Speilberg's Lincoln, the Scott Brother's production of Nat Geo's Killing Lincoln, Investigative Discovery's Fatal Encounters, as well as on numerous award winning short films, regional and national commercial spots. Joe co-starred in Antihero, a full length independent feature film that has made its rounds across the country garnering a few awards here and there including best feature film at the columbia gorge international film festival, and best buddy comedy at the Seattle Independent Film festival. Antihero can be ordered or requested on Netflix, and with enough requests earn distribution. On the stage Joe is just closed a production of Twlefth Night, playing Orsino, and is preparing for an excited production of Voodoo Macbeth, wherein he will play the The Scottish King himself.
